Do you accept Medicare?
Caring Nuns Adult Foster Care Homes is a private pay home. You can bill Medicare directly for reimbursement. We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this. Please make an appointment to visit our adult foster are home in Bend.
Are there additional monthly charges I should know about?
At Caring Nuns, we operate on an all-inclusive, flat monthly rate. There are no hidden fees like you might experience with an Assisted Living facility. Included in your monthly rate is around the clock care, pharmacy delivery, a private room, all meals, daily activities, cable television/WiFi, laundry and housekeeping.

We have contracted with various businesses in Bend to provide services such as hair care, foot care, and massage therapy. These extra services are not included in your monthly rate, but we are sure you will find them both convenient and reasonably priced.

What are the staff qualifications at Otunga House?

The Sisters of Mary of Kakamega have devoted their lives to being in the service of God and humanity. Each has a special way with people, their talents combining to create an extremely nurturing environment for our residents. They are selfless, compassionate and dedicated caregivers.
What are the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)?
We assist our residents with up to six Activities of Daily Living: personal hygiene, mobility, eating, dressing, toileting, and behavior management.
What are the levels of adult foster care in Oregon?
Level/Class 1 defined:
The provider in a Class 1 home has the equivalent of at least one year of verifiable full-time experience within the last three years providing direct care to elderly persons or persons with disabilities or a current CNA certification and the equivalent of at least four months verifiable full-time experience within the last three years. Light care can be provided to people who need assistance with four or fewer ADLs. Residents must be in stable medical condition. No resident who needs skilled or continuous nursing care may be admitted to a Class I Adult Foster Home.
Level/Class 2 defined:
The provider in a Class 2 home has the equivalent of two years of full-time verifiable experience providing direct care to elderly persons or persons with disabilities within the last five years, or a current CNA certification and the equivalent of at least 16 months full-time verifiable experience within the last five years. Moderate care can be provided to people who need assistance in one or all of the six ADLs, but are not totally dependent on more than three activities of daily living. A Level II provider may request an exception from their licensure to provide care to one Class III resident.
